Great Bhutan Evening
We had such a great time at the Bhutan Foundation event at Cumberland Gallery in Nashville on Saturday with Rob and Carol Stein, long time friends of Bhutan. Dr. Rob Stein started the Orthopedics Overseas program in Bhutan in 1991. He's been director of the program for all of these years and American orthopedists have volunteered in the hospital in Thimphu each month for over 20 years. The top picture is Tshewang Wangchuk, executive director of the Bhutan Foundation who gave a fantastic talk and showed great pictures. He's with Lonnie, who is coming to Bhutan and whom I love. Then Tshewang and Namgay, Lynee D. and me, and the Steins and us all together. Rob Stein looks great in a gho, by the way. Thanks to all the people who came. There were over 80 of you which was wonderful. And thanks so much for your support of Namgay's Art Apprentice Program. Here's to Bhutan and new beginnings!

Hello Linda,
I have just returned from Bhutan this week, and am so happy to have your book to enable me to live in Bhutan for a few more hours. Loving it, thank you. (Bought in Junction book store, just a few metres down hill from the traffic-policeman-box.)
I stayed with Bhutanese friends who live about ten or so minutes walk uphill from the Indigenous Hospital & Folk History Museum, so pretty close to where you reside whilst in Thimphu. This means so much of what you write about is revision for my mind. My friends have living with them an old grandpa who grew up in the house which is now the Folk History Museum.
It is hard to leave Bhutan behind. I don't need to tell you how it grabs your heart and wants to keep you. So... thanks for the book... which once read, will be passed via all friends and family.
Very best wishes from Switzerland,
Alison
Hi Alison, Your message was so wonderful to receive as Namgay and I have only just returned to Bhutan after what seems like a long time elsewhere. I'm glad Bhutan has grabbed your heart and thanks so much for your nice comments about the book. Now hard at work on the next one. I have a Swiss friend in the U.S., Sandy, and I'm very anxious for her to visit here as I think she'll also fall in love with the place. Perhaps you and I will meet here one day? All best and thanks again, Linda
Hi Linda,
Thanks for your note.
I see from your posts you are back in Thimpu. For sure, I will let you know next time I come over. And for sure, there must be a next time.
Still can't get my stomach used to the varied normal, healthy, fresh diet I have eaten all my life. Still, therefore, trying to emulate the whole western Bhutanese food thingie (yep, rice, chilli, cheese & vegetable)! I have travelled extensively, but never before totally changed my diet to local, and I can't believe how much I crave Bhutanese cuisine (and sitting on the floor cross-legged).
By the way, if you read guide books, they tell you that Bhutanese food is bland! Ha ha: Bhutanese tourist food is bland, but Bhutanese food is anything but bland!
Best wishes for the book writing!
Ali
So nice you're still eating Bhutanese. I agree Bhutanese food is far from bland! I love the fresh vegetables here. Sounds like you will come back. I'm glad. Best, Linda
